Giftedness is the manifestation of ability to learn well beyond the expected level of one’s age mates. It can be discovered through outstanding student performance, high test scores, or teacher observation.
Hickory Public Schools strives to meet the diverse cognitive and affective needs of gifted students with the provision of high quality educational opportunities. We believe that a partnership between the school system, parents, and the community fosters the potential of gifted students from all cultural groups and economic strata.
Services for gifted learners must be part of an overall educational program supporting excellence for all students. Students must have a continuum of services that address their diverse academic, social and emotional needs through appropriate differentiation of curriculum and instruction.
The AIG program offers a variety of settings and learning opportunities to enhance students’ freedom to develop and to demonstrate gifted behaviors. Through challenging, rigorous, and relevant curricula, all students will graduate from high school globally competitive for work or postsecondary education, and will be prepared for life in the 21st century.
