Hickory Public Schools will follow the guidance from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for all athletics. The website for NCHSAA is www.nchsaa.org .

Remote Learning:

Where can we find out more information on remote learning? Each school will soon share information with families regarding the plan for remote learning.  Please watch your child’s school’s website and listen for calls from your child’s principal. Be sure that your phone number and email contact information has been updated with your child's school.

Will my child be required to attend two weeks of in-person instruction before he/she can begin remote instruction?     No, your child can start with remote instruction.  Your child’s school will be in contact with you prior to school starting to give you additional information regarding your child’s schedule.

When will my family need to decide if we want to have remote learning or in-person instruction?  Each school has a parent intent form on their website.  The form is due by July 31.  Schools will then be contacting parents that did not respond to the survey.  If you have additional questions or would like to change your decision, please contact your child’s school.  The commitment is for the first semester (August - December).

Exceptional Children

If my child receives special services such as OT, how will he/she still receive services?  The EC Department will create Remote Learning Contingency Plans for students in August and September. The RLCP's will address how each service documented in the student's IEP will be delivered for the upcoming school year. The RLCP's will address EC services for schools operating under Plans A, B and C which will be based on Governor Cooper's directives and the decisions made by the HPS Board of Education.
