The 65 kindergarten students at Oakwood Elementary School were in for a big surprise recently as members of the Hickory Public Schools Board of Education stopped by to share lunch with the students.

One student in particular, Joshua Lineburg, five years old, enjoyed the special opportunity to meet members of the Board of Education. Members of the visiting Board included Charlotte Williams, Margaret Pope, Ittiely Carson, and Amy Monroe.

In addition to meeting members of the Board, Joshua also  experienced the exciting opportunity to sit next to the HPS Superintendent, Dr. Robbie Adell, during the lunch break.

As everyone enjoyed the Oakwood menu which included a chicken fillet sandwich, collard greens, tater tots and apples, Joshua engaged in conversation with Dr. Adell.

Joshua, the grandson of Tracy Graydon, shared with Dr. Adell  about his passion for the physical education class at Oakwood. He also shared that when he is not at school, he enjoys playing with his friends. Joshua is a student in Hope Wike’s kindergarten class.

Each month, the HPS Board of Education visits one of the district’s nine schools, not only to share a good meal, but to meet students and hear about the school’s good news and achievements.
