The mission of the Board of Education of the Hickory City Schools is to serve as the primary advocate for the success of all children in our public schools.

The Hickory City Board of Education is comprised of seven members elected to four-year terms of office.  Six members of the Board represent wards within the district with one member elected from each ward by the qualified voters of the ward and the member must be a resident of the ward. One member shall be elected at-large by the qualified voters of the entire district. Elections are conducted every two years in odd number years with seats in Wards 1, 2, 3 and 5 combined in one election and the remaning seats in Wards 4 and 6 and the at-large seat elected two years later.  The members elected shall take office on the first Monday in December following their election and shall serve for four years.
