HPS Announces

Instructional Technology Specialist

Hickory Public Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Jordan Caldwell as the district’s new Instructional Technology Specialist. Caldwell began his new duties this past Monday, July 8, 2019.

An educator in North Carolina Public Schools for nearly a decade, Caldwell possesses a wealth of experience in working with digital learning and instructional technology. As a former history teacher with Hickory Career and Arts Magnet High School (HCAM), Caldwell consistently used interactive technology through his classroom instruction.

While serving as chairman of the HCAM Social Studies Department, Caldwell was an active participant with the district’s eLeader Program, supporting the focus on strengthening daily technology instruction at Hickory Public Schools.

Following his seven-year service at HCAM, Caldwell accepted a position with Newton-Conover City Schools where he served as the Digital Learning Facilitator at North Newton Elementary.  During this time, Caldwell managed all of the school’s technology and he was responsible for leading the roll-out of the school’s Digital Learning Center.

On a district-wide level while serving NCCS, Caldwell actively engaged with the district technology team in the development of technology policies, procedures, and design. He also implemented technology professional development for the classroom educator.

On a state level, Caldwell served as a Digital Content Ambassador and Digital Learning Competency Ambassador for two years with the North Carolina Department of Instruction (NCDPI) Digital Teaching and Learning division.

"We are excited to have the enthusiasm and expertise that Jordan Caldwell brings to Hickory Public Schools,” said HPS Assistant Superintendent, Dr. La’Ronda Whiteside.  “I'm looking forward to working with and learning from him. We welcome Jordan back to HPS!"

Caldwell earned two undergraduate degrees from Western Carolina University including a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Science in Social Science Education.  He also earned his Masters of Arts in Education / Instructional Technology, from East Carolina University.

A native of Hickory, Jordan has been married to Courtney for three years. When not working, he enjoys spending family time outdoors and playing golf.

While Caldwell’s office will be based at the HPS Administrative Offices, he will frequently visit the district’s nine schools, as he leads the technology instructional programs for both HPS educators and students.

Congratulations,
Jordan Caldwell –

and welcome back to HPS!
