Dr. Jennifer Cash

Southwest Primary School will notice a new face at the helm, officially starting on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Dr. Jennifer B. Cash will serve as the interim school principal for the remainder of the current school year, replacing Mrs. Stephanie Dischiavi, who accepted a position with the NC Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

With extensive experience as an education professional, both as an administrator and as a program director, the transition should be a smooth one, keeping the academic gains at the forefront, according to HPS Superintendent, Dr. Robbie Adell.

“We are very fortunate as we welcome the leadership of Dr. Cash to our district,” said Adell. “Her stellar career in leading academic programs will be a great fit for Southwest Primary.  Her strength in working with continuous improvement practices, instructional coaching, technology, supervision of staff and students, and even fiscal management practices, will contribute to the ever-growing high expectations that have been put in place at Southwest. She also brings a wealth of experience in working with families, conflict resolution, and she is a true advocate for the growth of the individual child,” said Adell.

Among her many leadership roles, Dr. Cash previously served as the Director of Exceptional Children (EC) Program, Homebound Services, and the EC Preschool Program for Lincoln County Schools. Additionally, she served as the Regional Education Coordinator through a combined venture between NC DPI and UNC-Charlotte, serving the southwest and piedmont regions of NC public schools.

Earlier years included serving as Director of the Exceptional Children Program, Preschool Program, AIG Program, Section 504, and Homebound Services of Newton-Conover City Schools. In this capacity, Dr. Cash also collaborated with Hickory Public Schools in the jointly funded programs, providing professional development on curriculum and instruction.

As a former Principal of Northview Elementary School in Iredell-Statesville Schools and Principal of the Enola School, a NC Dept. of Health and Human Services school for grades 6-12, Dr. Cash also served as Principal of Oak Lane Elementary in Roxboro, NC and as Assistant Principal of Little River Elementary in Durham, NC.

She began her career in education as a classroom teacher at Blue Creek Elementary with Onslow County Schools where she was selected as the school’s Teacher of the Year (1994). Following her term with Blue Creek, she served as Assistant Principal of Hunters Creek Elementary and as Elementary Curriculum Director for Onslow County Schools, Jacksonville, NC.

Dr. Cash earned a NC professional educator license in multiple areas including: Superintendent, Exceptional Children Program Administrator, Principal, Curriculum & Instruction Specialist, Mentor, and Elementary Education.

Awarded the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Wingate University, Dr. Cash also earned the Education Specialist advanced degree from Appalachian State University; a Master of Arts in Education with a licensure in School Administration and Curriculum Supervision from East Carolina University; a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill; and an Associate of Arts from Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC.

Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Cash—and welcome to Southwest Primary School!

We also wish the very best to Mrs. Stephanie Dischiavi in her new role with DPI!
