HPS Virtual Option for the 2021-22 School Year

Application Process & Deadlines


HPS will offer a centralized virtual option for students enrolled in Grades 4-12 for the 2021-22 School Year.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  To ensure students are set up to be successful in this program there will be a set of minimum entry requirements.

*Students are enrolled in Grades 4-12
*Students are required to be in good academic standing during the 2020-21 school year. 
This means passing all of their required classes.

*Students must not have a history of chronic absenteeism.  This means no more than 10 unexcused absences.

APPLICATIONS:  Applications will be accepted at the front office of each of our schools and our Administrative Services building (432 4th Ave., SW, Hickory, NC  28602).  All applications are due by 5:00 on Wednesday, August 11th.  Following the application review by the schools, families will be notified of acceptance/denial between Aug. 12th-18th.

To apply, please do one of the following:

1) visit THIS WEBPAGE to find the application.  Print, complete, and drop off at your student’s home school
2) OR Stop by your student’s home school to complete a paper application

*Any applications received after the due date will be placed on a waiting list and acceptance will be based on available spots at that point*

**In addition to the HPS Virtual Option application form you will also need to complete the online PowerSchool enrollment required for all HPS students**


1  YEAR COMMITMENT AGREEMENT:  We are asking participating families to sign a 1(one) year commitment agreement to remain in the program for the entire 2021-22 School Year.  This is to provide the student with a consistent learning environment for the entire year while allowing the district to properly staff this program.  Students will not be allowed to transfer in and out of the virtual option at any point unless the family moves out of the district.


DISCLAIMER:  Hickory Public Schools is required to follow any state law, executive order, and guidelines received through the NC Department of Public Instruction.  If any legislation or regulations are enacted at the state level that would impact our ability to provide remote instruction through this delivery option the district will communicate that information out with participating families in a timely manner and adjust accordingly.
