Ryan McCreary, who has served as the principal of Hickory High for the past year, will serve as the new principal of Jenkins Elementary School, effective July 1, 2016. McCreary replaces John Black, who will retire June 30, 2016.

An experienced elementary school administrator, McCreary previously served as the principal of Oakwood Elementary where he led the school to distinguished levels of academic achievement and helped to close the achievement gap.

Known for his ability to build school family relations and community partnerships, McCreary is excited about the leadership opportunity at Jenkins.

Working on his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Gardner-Webb University, McCreary shared the leadership role at Jenkins Elementary will afford him more time to finish his degree as well as the opportunity to spend time with his young family.

 

Prior to his selection to lead Oakwood Elementary in October, 2013, McCreary served as the assistant principal at North Wilkes Middle School in North Wilkesboro (NC) before his selection as principal of Central Wilkes Middle School in Moravian Falls (NC) from 2011-2013.

 

While at Oakwood, McCreary initiated several groups and special events including a mentoring group for African-American male students, Latino Parent Nights to teach parents how to help their children (McCreary is fluent in Spanish) and he initiated Community Talk with area community leaders, as well as many other initiatives and successful endeavors.

 

In addition to earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and Spanish from Lenoir-Rhyne University in which McCreary graduated Summa Cum Laude, he also earned his master’s in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

 

An Eagle Scout, McCreary has received multiple recognitions and awards including: 2014 Top Ten Under 40 from the Hickory Young Professionals; finalist for Corning Cable Systems Math Teacher of the Year; Piedmont Education Foundation Scholar Athlete of the Year/Lenoir-Rhyne University; and he is a graduate of the World View Global Education Leaders’ Program at UNC-Chapel Hill. McCreary has presented at several professional development training conferences for educators in both Hickory and Wilkesboro.
