HPS Selects Executive

Administrative Assistant

to Superintendent and

Board Clerk

HICKORY…  Hickory Public Schools announces the selection of Ms. Angela (Angel) Holland to serve as the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, Dr. Bryan Taylor and the Clerk to the HPS Board of Education, effective Monday, October 18, 2021.

As an employee of Hickory Public Schools for nearly seven years, Ms. Holland has served as Finance Assistant to the HPS Finance Department.

In her new role, Ms. Holland will provide numerous duties of administrative support for the Superintendent, Dr. Taylor and the Board of Education—as well as the support of analytical and appropriate communication with internal and community groups.

Prior to joining Hickory Public Schools, Ms. Holland served as Legal Assistant/Paralegal for Sigmon, Clark, Mackie, Hanvey & Ferrell, P.A. for 18 years. As a North Carolina Certified Paralegal (effective 2006), Ms. Holland served the entire law firm with her primary assistance provided to Jeffrey T. Mackie, who previously served HPS as the Board Attorney. She served as a Legal Assistant to area law firms for a combined 25 years.

A native of Hickory and a graduate of St. Stephens High School, Ms. Holland was always interested in law and pursued becoming a Legal Assistant immediately upon high school graduation. Through her service to Hickory Public Schools, she has expanded her knowledge of finance and technology—while assisting the district’s entire staff.

Married to Brian Holland, the Hollands are residents of Bethlehem, NC and they are the parents of five children with the youngest as a sophomore in high school.

“I am thrilled about this opportunity to grow professionally,” said Ms. Holland. “I realize there will be new challenges and rewards—as I learn every day. It’s important to keep learning, keep pushing, and keep pursuing. Every day is a new day,” she said.

“I also love working with the entire team at Hickory Public Schools. Our employees are very effective—very strong—at what they do. It’s been amazing to learn from my HPS colleagues as I’ve discovered the talent and dedication that goes on behind-the-scenes. I look forward to serving in this new capacity at the HPS Administrative Services Building,” said Ms. Holland.

“I am very excited about the appointment of Ms. Angel Holland to the position of Executive Assistant and Board Clerk,” said Superintendent, Dr. Taylor. “I believe the combination of her experience and her desire to serve in her new role will enhance not only my office, but the district as well.”
