8th Grade Leopard Team : Mathematics Teacher
Math Class Descriptions:
Pre-Algebra - 8th Grade Standard Course of Study; major concepts include real numbers, linear functions, Pythagorean theorem, indirect measurement, scatterplots, slope, equations and inequalities
Algebra Essentials - a collaboration of Algebra I and 8th grade curriculum; students will be receiving 2/3 of the Algebra I curriculum so that they will be receiving the first half of Progressive Algebra (high school course), and they will also be receiving the 8th grade curriculum so that they will be prepared for the EOG.
Algebra I - Algebra I Standard Course of Study; major concepts include operating with polynomials and matrices, creating and applying linear functions and relations, using algebraic representations of geometric relationships, and understanding nonlinear functions; students will also be expected to understand the 8th Grade Standard Course of Study; students will receive a high school credit for this class with successful completion of the class and the EOC.

|   |   | NORTHVIEW EOG VOLUNTEER PROCTORS NEEDED |
Northview has need of anywhere from 10 to 40 proctors per testing day from approximately 7:45 to 11:00 a.m. Contact Janine Mendenhall at (mendenhallja@hickoryschools.net) or call (828) 327-6300 ext. 217 and leave a message.
Days a proctor is needed:
Tuesdays, May 22, May 29, June 5
Wednesdays, May 23, May 30
Thursdays, May 24, May 31, June 7
Fridays, May 5, June 1
Test Proctor trainin with lunch is coming at the HPS Administration Services Building located at 432 4th SW, Hickory. Call Jennifer Heath at 828-322-2855 to confirm your attendance at least 48 hours in advance.
Thursday, May 3 from 12:15-12:45 p.m.
If you can't make one of these times, plan or training at Northview during the week of May 15, Monday-Friday. Sorry no lunch included for this week.

The State Board of Education has approved the calendar weather waiver for the three Catawba County School Systems (HPS, Catawba and Newton-Conover).
The 2012-13 school year will officially start for students on August 7 with teachers/staff reporting on August 2, 2012

Volunteer Test Proctors Needed for Hickory Public Schools
Only 30 minutes of your time for training—with lunch to boot!
How can you help our schools? Start with just 30 minutes of training during your lunch break (that includes a simple lunch). It’s that easy!
HPS students start their End of Course (EOC) and End of Grade (EOG) testing on May 22nd. Tests will continue through June 7th.
Instructed by Shawn Clemons, HPS director of accountability, the volunteer proctor training is offered on three different dates. Choose ONE of the following schedules for your training: Tuesday, April 24th from 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM Friday, April 27th from 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM Thursday, May 3rd from 12:15 – 12:45 PM
All training will take place in the conference room at the HPS Administrative Services Building, located at 432 4th Avenue SW, Hickory, NC 28602.
