The PTA is sponsoring a contest this year titled "Art Well Crafted".  Areas include: Visual Arts, Photography & Literature. Entry Forms with complete information are available for pick up in the NV front office, all entries are due January 18th.

The Boosters Club is going to be placing another sweat shirt order the end of this week.  Please tell students if they want to order a sweat shirt, they need to place their order now!  We need to know:

The Boosters Club will be selling merchandise during lunch on Thursday, Jan. 17th.  Come check out our new spring pullovers ($25) and stock up on socks, $7 a pair.

Cheerleading tryouts for Northview will take place for upcoming 7th and 8th graders on May 6th through May 9th , please see Mrs. Glenn for a physical sheet.

The topic for 2012 - 13 DAR Essay Contest is "Forgotten Patriots Who Supported the American Struggle for Independence".  Full information and rules are available from language arts teachers, deadline is October 29th.

The Geography Bee Club will be having its first meeting this Thursday November 8th from 2.30-3.30 in room 108, Mr. Grove’s classroom. Mr. Wortman will be helping with the club.

All interested students from all grade levels are encouraged to attend.  In the meeting we will be discussing the club and Bee and finding out who is the Geography Champion of Northview

Due to the Weather, the Geography Bee Competition has been postponed till Thursday January 31st from 2.30-3.30

 

A geography champion for Northview will be crowned.

This winner will have the possibility of going on to the Regional Geography Bee.

The International Club will be meeting this Thursday, Nov. 1st from 2:30-3:30 in the Media Center.  We’re “visiting” Greece this month through its culture, history, food, and language.  Come along on our visit and learn more about both ancient and modern Greece.

 

The Northview Jazz Band earned Superior ratings from all judges at the Western Region Jazz MPA on Friday, April 26th.  The Hickory HS Jazz Band also earned straight Superior ratings.  Congratulations to all of the Jazz Band students &

David Wortman.

Remember: this is only to wear jeans, all other clothing shoes must follow dress code guidelines.

Take Charge of Education 

Northview Middle School’s MathCounts team did very well yesterday at the regional competition. Michael Vezmar and James Griesen placed in the Top 10 out of over 150 students. The team, consisting of Michael Vezmar, James Griesen, Tyler Cochrane, and Stephen Allen, placed 2nd overall, and will be participating in the state competition at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. Other members of the Northview MathCounts team include Anthony Cheek, Ryan Dewitt, Rachel Engelmann, Maggie Howe, Madie Moore, and Max Vierling. We are very proud of these students and their success at the competition!!

If your child currently has medication at school, you need to come by the school office and pick up the medication between 5/20 & 5/30.  Medication cannot be sent home with students.

Northview will have need of anywhere from 10 to 40 proctors per testing days in May 2013, from approximately 7:45 to 11:00 a.m.  Contact Janine Mendenhall at (mendenhallja@hickoryschools.net) or call  (828) 327-6300 ext. 217 and leave a message if you will be available to help out.

These 32oz Nalgene brand water bottles with the Northview Hawks name are for sale starting Monday for only $15.  Checks payable to NVMS PTA.  For sale in school store next Tuesday, then selected lunches during May and the morning of Hawk Fest!  Order forms will also be available in the office, if you attach your payment, it will be delivered to your homeroom teacher.  We have a limited quantity so be sure to buy one soon!

All 6-8 graders interested in running club should meet in Mrs. Lail’s room (310) at 2:20 on Friday.  Any 6th or 7th graders who are interested in running for the cross country team next fall should attend the running club or see Mrs. Lail as soon as possible.

*Ms. Ruff stressed that referrals should be used as a last resort. Teachers are expected to make parent contact prior to writing a referral.

*PEP’s are living documents. Teachers should inform parents at initial conferences that additional meetings will be needed to review success and make revisions to PEP throughout the year.

Any current 8th grader interested in participating in sports next year @ HHS can get a FREE physical on Tuesday, 5/14 at 4:30 at the HHS Athletic Complex.  You MUST pick up the physical form from the front office or from Coach Mackie.  The ONLY form that will be accepted is the form approved by the NCHSAA.  NO exceptions!  See Coach Mackie if you have questions.
