Congratulations April Icard, HPS Teacher of the Year!

 

The entire school was on hand to greet April Icard on her arrival after winning Teacher of the Year!  Ms. Icard's Pre-K class and a former student, Kindergartner Zoe Stroud, were among the first to share their congratulations.  See the full story about Ms. Icard on the HPS website.

Going the Extra Mile!

Andrea Flores, Arely Mejia-Gomez, and Bella Snider represented Longview at this year's 2013 Kids Marathon.  Kids Marathon challenged students to complete 25 out of 26.2 miles over the course of several months.  Runners completed their final 1.2 mile run/walk challenge together at the American Legion Fairgrounds. The Kids Marathon was hosted by the YMCA of Catawba County.

Longview 5th Graders Take Science Into Their Own Hands!

Thanks to the Catawba Science Center's Outreach program, Longview 5th graders had the chance to learn about the systems of the body in the most hands-on way possible - by dissecting a frog!  Many thanks to the Science Center for providing this opportunity!

Longview Students Receive Letter from President Obama!

Donnie Yang, Michael Ochoa-Romero, Hector Diaz-Martinez, Melissa Marcos-Jacobo, Kevin Mendoza, Miguel Campuzano, and Caroline Walker, ESL teacher.

Longview Elementary students enrolled in the English as a Second Language (ESL) class under the instruction of Caroline Walker received a surprise letter in the mail from the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

The team showed true Lion Pride battling against Hickory's four other elementary schools!  Congratulations to Jamie Lewis, Gabrielle McCall, Emily Greene, Gourni Propst, Kayla Soublet, Zoe Brockenborough, Malcolm Hill, and Madison Bywaters for representing Longview so well!

The new friendly face that greets you when you come to Longview is our new school secretary, Holli Cline!  Holli previously worked with Longview students in the Community Schools Program.  We are so happy to welcome her to this new position at Longview!

Longview Students Recognized

At Awards Day!

Longview held its quarterly Awards Ceremony on Friday, March 15th.  Students from pre-K through 5th grade were recognized for academics and positive behavior, and took the "Walk of Fame" around the gym!  Thank you to all the  families and friends who attended - it was a great crowd!

Parents are needed to serve on various educational committees at the school.  The committees are: Literacy, Math, Science/Social Studies, Technology, Communications, Positive Behavior, and Safe and Caring Schools.
