PRIDE
Through the PRIDE program, volunteers from the community work with students in grades 3-5 on reading and language arts activities. Mentors are given an easy lesson plan to follow, and over the course of a year make a real impact in the life of the child!  For more information about the PRIDE program, or to volunteer, contact Kathy Salomon.

Teen Up
Girls - The TEEN UP program is offered to Longview Elementary through the Catawba County Department of Social Services. It is small group of 5th grade girls that meets weekly during the school day. The group focuses on: promoting academic success, encouraging positive parent/child relationships, building self-confidence, making responsible decisions, dealing with peer pressure, and handling anger, frustration, and depression in constructive ways.  Group activities teach students to make wise choices that help them to learn, grow, and reach their potential.  If you have any questions, please contact Veronique Simpson, of the TEEN UP/DHR Prevention Staff, at (828)695-4415 or Candace Johnson, school counselor at (828)327-2070.

Boys - The Character & Leadership class is provided to Longview Elementary 5th Grade boys by Teen Up Counselor Joseph Edwards. The focus of the class is to develop character and leadership skills by: building self-confidence, making responsible decisions, dealing with pressure from peers, developing personal values and communication skills, respecting authority, and by setting long/short term goals. Each week in class, the students are faced with dilemmas that incorporate empathy, honesty, and integrity. Our intention is to help the students think about the decisions they make, while preparing them to be accountable for their actions.  Please contact Candace Johnson, school counselor, for more information.

Kid Connection
The Before/After Care Program is run by Community Schools of Catawba County.  It offers parents a safe, well supervised environment for children during the hours before school begins and again at the end of the school day.  For more information, call the Longview school office at (828)327-2070 or Community Schools at (828)464-9355.
