NORTHVIEW EOG VOLUNTEER PROCTORS NEEDED
Northview has need of anywhere from 10 to 40 proctors per testing day from approximately 7:45 to 11:00 a.m.  Contact Janine Mendenhall at (mendenhallja@hickoryschools.net) or call  (828) 327-6300 ext. 217 and leave a message.   
 
Days a proctor is needed:
Tuesdays, May 22, May 29, June 5
Wednesdays, May 23, May 30
Thursdays, May 24, May 31, June 7
Fridays, May 5, June 1
 
Test Proctor trainin with lunch is coming at the HPS Administration Services Building located at 432 4th SW, Hickory.  Call Jennifer Heath at 828-322-2855 to confirm your attendance at least 48 hours in advance.
 
Thursday, May 3 from 12:15-12:45 p.m.
 
If you can't make one of these times, plan or training at Northview during the week of May 15, Monday-Friday.  Sorry no lunch included for this week.

VOLUNTEER TEST PROCTORS NEEDED
Volunteer Test Proctors Needed for Hickory Public Schools

Only 30 minutes of your time for training—with lunch to boot!

How can you help our schools? Start with just 30 minutes of training during your lunch break (that includes a simple lunch). It’s that easy!

HPS students start their End of Course (EOC) and End of Grade (EOG) testing on May 22nd. Tests will continue through June 7th.

Instructed by Shawn Clemons, HPS director of accountability, the volunteer proctor training is offered on three different dates. Choose ONE of the following schedules for your training:
 Tuesday, April 24th from 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM
 Friday, April 27th from 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM
 Thursday, May 3rd from 12:15 – 12:45 PM
All training will take place in the conference room at the HPS Administrative Services Building, located at 432 4th Avenue SW, Hickory, NC 28602.

BELL SCHEDULE
1st Bell at 7:37 a.m.
Warning Bell at 7:43 a.m.
Start of 1st Period Bell at 7:45 a.m.
Dismissal Bell at 2:20 p.m.
 
Students tardy to school three times, during the nine week grading period, will receive After School Detention (ASD).

Our wonderful "Volunteer of the Year" Pastor Andrew Weisner comes to help band students and Mr. Wortman, several times a week.

SCHOOL YEAR 2012-2013 STARTS AUGUST 7
The State Board of Education has approved the calendar weather waiver for the three Catawba County School Systems (HPS, Catawba and Newton-Conover).
 
The 2012-13 school year will officially start for students on August 7 with teachers/staff reporting on August 2, 2012
Standardized Dress Code
Tops:
*Collared short sleeve or long sleeve knit shirts
with button-centered plackets
*Collared long sleeve, buttoned dress shirts
*Turtlenecks
*White and ALL SOLID colors
*ALL shirts must be tucked in
*Sweatshirts WITHOUT hoods may be worn,
but must be worn with a collared shirt underneath
Bottoms:
*Pants, skirts, shorts, skorts, and capris are allowed
*NO cargo pants, jeans of leggings/jeggings of any color
*Must be knee length or longer and worn at the waist
with a belt that fits the waist
*Khaki, black, and navy
Shoes:
No bedroom shoes, flip flops, or athletic slides
NO LOGOS on any clothing
Each Friday, is school SPIRIT DAY!

PTA will be opening the School Store on Thursdays.  Tee shirts will be available through the school store.

Hawk Fest Sports Tournaments 3-on-3 Basketball 4-on-4 Volleyball 2-on-2 Badminton Get your friends together and create your team! - All games will be played during Hawk Fest - Teams must be made up of students from the SAME GRADE LEVEL - Boys and girls ARE allowed to be on the same team - You may only be on ONE TEAM PER SPORT, but you may play in each tournament See Coach Mackie in PE for registration forms You must sign up by Friday June 1st!


8TH GRADE SEMI-FORMAL
   6/1/12
The 8th Grade class will hold it's Semi-formal on June 1st from 6:30-9:00 PM. Advance tickets are $5.


LIBRARY BOOKS DUE
   6/4/12
