Viewmont Elementary School was recognized as a Triple “S” Super Safe School at the Safe, Orderly and Caring School Conference in Greensboro on February 7th, 2008.  Only forty-eight other schools in North Carolina were recognized with this award this school year.  The overall goal of the Triple “S” program is to recognize schools for decreasing the incidence of school crime and violence, and implementing strategies for maintaining safe, orderly and caring schools, as evidenced by school data. The recognition process is strictly voluntary and is competitive.  The extensive application process required the collection and analysis of data relating to staff development and disciplinary information over a period of three years.  An assessment inventory of the school was completed relating to vehicular and human traffic control, surveillance, access control, safety devices and equipment, safety provision and safety planning.  Viewmont’s Positive Behavior Support (PBS) system was also a major component of this plan.  Viewmont Elementary is very proud to be the only school in the Hickory Public School system to have achieved this honor.
