Viewmont Dance Company

The Viewmont Dance Company was established as an extra-curricular activity to help our Viewmont students develop creativity and an appreciation for the art of dance.  Membership to the dance team is open to all 4th and 5th grade students who audition in the Fall and are selected by a panel of judges.  The Viewmont Dance Company is directed by Ms. Jennifer Love, Speech-Language Pathologist and Ms. Anyea Gibson, 3rd grade teacher.  In addition to learning and performing dance routines throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to:
·
        Improve self-discipline, self-confidence and self-esteem
·
Develop good character, good citizenship, and good sportsmanship
·
Learn problem solving skills, leadership skills and team building skills

Viewmont Chorus

The Viewmont Chorus was established as an extra-curricular activity to help our Viewmont students develop and express an appreciation of music.  Membership to the chorus is open to all 4th and 5th grade students.  Chorus members practice after school on Tuesdays and perform for students and parents throughout the school year.  Ms. Wanda Logan, music teacher, directs the Viewmont Chorus.

Student Council

The Viewmont Student Council is comprised of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade representatives elected from each classroom.  Officers are nominated and elected by the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student body each Fall.  Student Council members meet to plan community service and school spirit activities.  Last year, our student council representatives organized bi-monthly Funky Fridays, collection of Box Tops for Education, Love Lines to raise funds for the American Heart Association, a canned food drive, and a sports equipment drive.  Advisors for the Viewmont Student Council are Mrs. Jane Hodges, 4th grade teacher and Mr. Stephen Ward, Physical Education teacher.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. The curricula address all aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well-being.

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is an extra-curricular activity designed to bring science to life!  Students meet once a week to work on science activities that emphasize the problem solving aspects of science and enchance the understanding of science concepts.  In addition to increasing students' interest in science and improving science test scores, this after-school activity allows students to have fun sharing their interests and knowledge about science.

Library Helpers

Library helpers at Viewmont volunteer their time before and after school to help reshelf books.  Through this opportunity, they learn responsibility and gain a better understanding of the way our library runs.  Fifth graders will be selected in the fall to help Mrs. Minton in the library.

Flag Patrol

Fifth grade classes take turns assigning students to the flag patrol.  Students are in charge of raising and lowering our American Flag, North Carolina Flag, and Viewmont Flag every day.  Students also learn the proper way to fold and store our flags as well as the significance of flying flags at half mast.
