Seven Hickory High School Orchestra members were selected as members of the 2009 North Carolina High School All-State Honors Orchestra.  These students performed on Sunday, November 8 at the Stevens Center in Winston-Salem as part of the NC Music Educators Conference.  Under the direction of Dr. James Anderson from Appalachian State University the students presented a program of Verdi, Khacaturian, Barber and Ravel to a capacity audience.

Violinist Kelly Boyd and violist Taylor Yount performed as members of this ensemble for the third and final time this year.  Students are only eligible as sophomores, juniors and seniors.  They were joined by cellists Dylan Hefner and Daniel McCallum and bassists William Bewley, William Burns and Caroline Prince.   Mr. Burns won an audition for a full scholarship to attend Cannon Music Camp as part of this event.  This marks the tenth year that a Hickory High Orchestra member has been a winner in the scholarship competition.  Students in the program have won awards to Brevard Music Center, Eastern Music Festival and Cannon Music Camp.
