Getting to know HPS Director of Communications--a note from Beverly:

Hello, everyone! It's an honor to share the GOOD NEWS of Hickory Public Schools! We all do our best to share as much as possible--as every child owns a "good news story" and has reason to celebrate!

We are certainly proud of our staff and our students! Hickory Public Schools is a wonderful school community--with great partnerships and support from throughout the county and beyond.

I've been in education since January 1974 --with the exception of a couple of corporate stints during my journey.  Yes, you can count those years! Coming up on 47!   I started out as a teacher with Charlotte-Meck Schools and later taught with Guilford County Schools. I've also served as a teacher with Caldwell County Schools and Hickory Public Schools.

In the midst of my teaching journey, I served as the Director of Public Relations for Lenoir-Rhyne University, and head of Corporate Communications for both Broyhill Furniture and CommScope, in addition to working as a freelance journalist. I also served in public relations in the NC Community College system and as the Public Information Officer for Catawba County Schools.

Born in Champaign, Illinois, I grew up attending public schools from coast to coast as my father was a Naval Aviator.I graduated from Langley High in Fairfax County Schools, McLean, VA, and later, Mars Hill University (NC) with graduate studies at both UNC-G and Lenoir-Rhyne.  I am a mother of two adult children (my daughter graduated from Hickory High in 2001) and today, she is a Nurse Practitioner; while my adult son, a Marine, is an ordained pastor serving a church youth ministry. I am also a blessed grandmother of two.

When not celebrating the outstanding achievements of our staff and students, I enjoy helping the rescue of animals in need,  working on children's books, and dreaming about my next visit to Beaufort, NC (The Crystal Coast).

If you have school news, please contact your child's teacher or the school's Communications Liaison.

Thank you for your support of Hickory Public Schools and celebrating with us, the many outstanding achievements of our students & staff!
